SOUNZfine promotional CDs
Over the last ten years we have distributed more than 1400 CDs to 32 countries, from Mongolia to Brazil. They have been used as a resource for radio series about New Zealand music in the Netherlands, Portugal, Germany and the USA as well as numerous 'one-off' programmes on radio stations around the world.
The CDs feature significant works by eminent New Zealand composers performed by outstanding ensembles and performers. Tracks are chosen from commercial recordings and the archive of Radio NZ Concert, a division of Radio New Zealand. The CDs are accompanied by detailed notes about each composer and the work. Six SOUNZfine CDs have been produced to date.

Volume 1 is no longer available, however Library members can borrow it from the SOUNZ collection.
Volume 2. Expressive and evocative works featuring A Song of Islands by the late Douglas Lilburn alongside contemporary composers Gareth Farr, Eve de Castro-Robinson and Christopher Blake.
Volume 3. A collection of shorter works by a dozen New Zealand composers. The pieces blend European musical styles with Maori, Pacific, Asian and Eastern music.
Volume 4. A varied selection of recent chamber and orchestral works showing a diversity of style and personality.
Volume 5. Music by New Zealand women composers at various stages in their composing careers, with all works having been written between 1993 and 2001. A wide selection of music including orchestral, chamber and electroacoustic.
Volume 6 – Sound Barrier This double CD was produced in partnership with New Zealand Geographic magazine and distributed with their Issue 83 in January / February 2007. It accompanies an extensive article in the magazine and features 28 tracks by 28 New Zealand composers giving a comprehensive overview of 'contemporary classical' New Zealand music in the last half century!
The Waiteata Collection of New Zealand Music CD Series

Waiteata Music Press has made their Waiteata CD Series available to SOUNZ to send out to the national and international broadcasters, complementing the Centre's SOUNZfine series. This is in line with our mission to promote NZ music, and is assisted by a grant from the Lilburn Trust. The collection now consists of a nine (of a projected 12) disc collection of significant New Zealand compositions, some newly recorded, some drawn from Radio New Zealand archival recordings.
Programmes may feature single genres such as chamber music, or focus on the work of a single composer, such as Gillian Whitehead (Volume III), Ross Harris (Volume IV), Jenny McLeod (Volume V) and Jack Body (Volume VI); Emerging Composers (Volume VII); and Douglas Lilburn: Salute to Poets (Volume IX). All works have been published in score by Waiteata Music Press which was founded by Douglas Lilburn in 1967 and is now established as the major publisher of New Zealand music.
