SOUNZwrite NCEA Level Two - Whitehead, Psathas, Hamilton

Kit - education resource

Revised for NCEA Level 2, this SOUNZwrite education contains:

Lullaby for Matthew is a short ‘romantic’ piece for piano (about Grade 5) by Gillian Whitehead, one of Aotearoa’s most experienced composers, explores the variation form as a compositional tool.

John Psathas’ evocative piano work Waiting for the Aeroplane provides a basis for the study of Greek music and jazz. Two commercial recordings of Lullaby for Matthew and Waiting for the Aeroplane are available from SOUNZ and both tracks can also be purchased as downloads (for SOUNZ Online Members).

David Hamilton is one of New Zealand’s foremost choral composers. His Rakiura , for SATB choir, is based on a play by Eileen Philipp and tells, in the style of a Noh drama, the story of a Japanese woman found living in a cave on Stewart Island. A recording is included on the SOUNZwrite choral CD, which also includes Hamilton’s Lux Aeterna for comparative listening, as well as works by Jenny McLeod and Helen Fisher.

SCORES FOR ALL THE WORKS MENTIONED ARE AVAILABLE SEPARATELY THROUGH SOUNZ: follow the above links to the works (in blue) to discover these.

Please note that the original accompanying CDs, which were funded by APRA, are in short supply. SOUNZ cannot always guarantee to provide them, particularly if a school has received them in the past.

COMMERCIAL RECORDINGS of most of these works, as well as comparative works mentioned in the Guides, ARE AVAILABLE THROUGH SOUNZ: follow the above links to the works (in blue) to discover these.
