Peter McClymont

Composer

Biography

Peter McClymont started composing music when he was at Dunedin North Intermediate in 1976. Six years later, while at Logan Park High School, he won the Advanced Original Composition prize in the Music Federation of New Zealand School Music Contest. He completed a BMus (Hons) in composition from the University of Otago in 1987, having studied under Jack Speirs and John Drummond.

In his own compositions, he has experimented with a range of instrumentation, as well as graphic score in addition to traditional notation.

Peter has taught Music and Mathematics at Tawa College, Upper Hutt College and Wellington Girls' College. He lives in Wilton, Wellington.
