Composer, Performer, Jazz Composer

Biography

John Bell has lead several jazz ensembles over the last 15 years. He has been commissioned to compose and present jazz works by the Wellington International Jazz festival, and modern music for 'The Committee' (Auckland). John is happy to perform standard jazz repertoire, though for recording, he concentrates on original material of his own, and by his colleagues.

John Bell has performed and recorded with great jazz players in New Zealand, Australia, and Korea. They include Steve Lacy (USA/France), William Parker (USA), Han Bennink (Holland), Sun Bae Choi (Korea), Vinny Golia (USA), Marilyn Crispell (USA), Bob Sedergreen (Australia), Eric Boeren (Holland), Trevor Watts (UK), Ronny Ferella (Australia), Paul Dyne (NZ), Jeff Henderson (NZ), Phil Broadhurst (NZ), Roger Mannins (NZ), Phil Slater (Australia), lloyd Swanton (Australia), Nathan Haines (UK) and Youn Woo Park (Korea). He also performs regularly with his group, the John Bell Trio.
