Ed Waaka

Composer, Performer, Māori Composer

Biography

Ngāti Pāhauwera me Te Rarawa

With a soul man’s voice and a poet’s soul, Ed Waaka's “silk and sandpaper” vocals have made him one of the most compelling singer songwriters to emerge from Aotearoa. His music pays homage to the power of the human condition, creating songs that are both consciously direct and spiritually uplifting.

He has worked and played alongside notable NZ artists including Troy Kingi, Trinity Roots, KITA, Melodownz, Louis Baker and Andy Lovegrove of Breaks Co-Op to name a few.

His song ‘Revolution’ was nominated for ‘Best Music Video’ at the 2020 Maori Music Awards, and Semi-Finalist in the prestigious International Songwriting Competition 2021. He is currently working on releasing music written completely in Te Reo Māori.
