Callum Mallett

Biography

Callum Mallett is a composer and sonic artist based in Wellington. Recently graduating from the New Zealand School of Music - Te Kōkī with a Bachelor of Music with Honours First Class in Composition and Sonic Arts. His current work explores aspects of timbral transformation, spatial disorientation, hybridity and render in mixed-media work. Recent projects have been workshopped by the New Zealand String Quartet, Ensemble Go! and Joshua Hyde (alto saxophone). In 2017 he was finalist of the Lilburn Trust NZSM Composition Competition with Interference Theory I for duo with live electronics, and co-winner of the NZTrio Composing Competition with Departure, at the Going Tide. He has had works recorded at the Wellington Cathedral of St. Pauls and the Wellington foyer of Te Papa.

He is currently working on a series of palimpsestic work for soloist and sinusoidal waves, Rendering for organ, commissioned by Jesse Austin-Stewart for the Pacific Lodge scholarship as the starting point.
