Graduation Gala Concerto Competition

Concert

Rising stars from The University of Auckland’s School of Music will vie for supremacy at the Graduation Gala Concerto Competition. This annual competition has become a must-hear event on Auckland’s music calendar. Three student soloists will be accompanied by The University of Auckland Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Uwe Grodd.

The free concert will begin with Tianyi Lu performing Anthony Ritchie’s Flute Concerto, followed by Jessica Rodda performing Edward Gregson’s Concerto for Tuba and Orchestra. Jason Bae will then give a rendition of Tchaikovsky’s Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No. 1 in B flat minor, Op. 23.

A panel of judges will select the top performer who will receive the title of Graduation Gala Concerto Competition supreme winner, as well as receiving a handsome cash prize. This year Musicworks have joined forces with the School of Music to sponsor prizes. The top performer will receive $5,000 with $3,000 for second place and $1,000 for third.
