Ravel – String Quartet in F major Shostakovich – String Quartet no. 8 Samuel Holloway – Domestic Architecture
Following a successful programme last year at the Depot, DSCH presents another contrasting collection of modern and contemporary gems. Shostakovich’s famous eighth String Quartet, with its harrowing echoes of Stalinist Russia, is featured alongside Ravel’s whimsical impressionist masterpiece. Amidst the lyrical beauty of these two works, Samuel Holloway’s Domestic Architecture provides an intricate window of stasis, a meditation on the tiniest of sounds.
