NZDRS Chamber Music Composition Competition 2018

The New Zealand Double Reed Society (NZDRS) is a branch of the Australasian Double Reed Society, a non- profit organisation which promotes and enhances the knowledge of double reed instruments (oboe and bassoon family). It runs a monthly chamber music club, regular performer’s evenings, master classes and other workshops throughout the year.

NZDRS is excited to announce the inaugural NZDRS Chamber Music Composition Competition. There is very little double reed music written by New Zealand composers and virtually nothing for less advanced players. The few pieces that are available for advanced players have proved popular and have been performed on a number of occasions. These include Anthony Young’s Trio for oboe, bassoon and piano and Ben Hoadley’s recent award- winning Oboe Trio.

This competition is designed to generate more New Zealand double reed music for players of all levels to enjoy, especially less advanced players. There are two categories: Open and High School. NZDRS believes that chamber music, as opposed to solo pieces, will provide the most opportunities for performance. This would include our monthly chamber music club, the NZCT Chamber Music Contest and university chamber groups.
