About

Jenny McLeod is widely considered to be one of New Zealand's most naturally gifted composers. Early on she studied with Olivier Messiaen, as well as avant-garde composers Pierre Boulez and Karlheinz Stockhausen. More recently she has translated Peter Schat's "Tone Clock" theory, and applied this to her own compositions (such as "Tone Clock Pieces" on this CD). McLeod is a most versatile composer; without confining herself to Western art music, she has composed large-scale theatre works for communities, embraced popular musical forms such as jazz and rock music, and is an accomplished writer of hymns.
