About

Composition 9 is one of a series of works by John Rimmer which combine live music with taped electronic sound. The text is an extract from Ian Wedde's 56 spells for Coming Out by Day.

O seaswell of love Surf's continuo, Ground bass of hope Singing ocean of time

Composition 9 was first performed by Heather Macdonald on March 26, 1976, in the Radio Theatre, Auckland. The work has been recorded by this same artist on Kiwi Pacific LSD-62.

The electronic sounds were realised at the Electronic Music Studio, Victoria University of Wellington.
