Faces of Summer is in two large movement with a quiet Interlude in between. It was conceived as a concerto-type work without favoring any particular instrument or group of instruments.

Faces of Summer was written between 14 November and 18 December 1975 in response to a request from the Kerikeri Festival of Performing Arts.

It is dedicated to the Kerikeri Festival and the conductor William Southgate.

Faces of Summer was written with the financial assistance of the Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council of New Zealand who the composer gratefully acknowledges.
