About

This short orchestral ‘fanfare’ was inspired by the sight of an albatross gliding in strong currents on a summer’s evening at Tairoa Head. The music also reflects the influence of NZ popular music, and in particular a gig by the Exponents.

Commissioned by the Dunedin Sinfonia (now Southern Sinfonia) to celebrate their 30th anniversary. Composed to open the first concert of the orchestra's 1996 International Series in Dunedin Town Hall on March 16 1996.
