About
Piano and flute wrestle in a virtuosic soundscape dominated by dissonantly arranged major thirds and major ninths. "Shift" continues my exploration of metric modulation as a structural parameter, though in this case the title alludes not only to "gear changes" in pulse, but to movement between styles.
"Shift" was commissioned by OKTA and premiered by Katherine Austin and Ingrid Culliford in 2004.
