About

State of Being is an inspiring, sometimes harrowing, journey through the human psyche that depicts an individual's struggle for survival and redemption using eight scenes – love, dance, maths, jazz, sex, death, drugs and truth. The composer writes “State of Being started its life as a heavily deconstructed interpretation of a novel with the importance of a narrative meaning being replaced by thematic meaning. It became clear to me that the original source material was irrelevant, so that all was left were the basic themes.”

Crowdsourcing
One of the original features of this opera is that much of the video and libretto content has been edited from worldwide contributors, utilising the exciting new crowdsourcing methodology to internationalise artistic collaboration – in this instance, particularly Australasia, Europe, the Far East and South America.

State of Being is supported by the New Zealand Society.
