Pierced Hemisphere is a work designed to help visually impaired visitors to the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield, West Yorkshire understand the sculpture of the same name by Barbara Hepworth. The song refers to the shapes of the sculpture and the gallery and also to the gallery's position between former industrial buildings and the River Calder.

Commissioned note

It was the recording and the accompanying information that was commissioned by the Hepworth Wakefield as part of their handling collection for use by visitors to the gallery with visual impairments. They wanted something that would help the visitors to appreciate a particular art work without necessarily being able to see it.

Difficulty note

community choir; high school choir
