About

Drawing from how Beethoven built the first movement of his Fifth Symphony upon the famous 'Fate' motif, Prelude in D Minor is based around a single cell-like motif which weaves its way throughout the piece in polyphonic textures. The piece begins in the strings and grows into the whole orchestra, working through tonally light and dark passages towards a majestic climax and then returning to its wispy origins.
