About

Composed by the Free Radicals, a Wellington-based art music duo comprised of Jonathan Besser and Ross Harris.

This is one of [Free Radicals'] darker works. It was performed and recorded in early the evenings of March 10 and 11 (1986) outside the Rankin Brown Library in the VUW quadrangle (built as a shelter for students). The very reverberant space was affectionately known as “Axford’s folly” and was later replaced by the current structure. The musicians — Ross Harris (synthesizer/ tape), Jonathan Besser (synthesizers/ delays), Chris Prosser (processed violin), and Greg Fox (processed electric guitar and eerie tape loops) — were positioned in each corner of the quadrangle. This is an excerpt from an extended work.
