The inspiration for this composition came from being alone on a deserted Lambton Quay, Wellington, New Zealand about 10.30pm on a Wednesday evening, after having listened to vibrant music performed by the resident jazz rock band at the then 1860 Hotel. The contrast between the energy inside the venue versus the emptiness afterwards on what was normally a busy CBD street by day, now lit by gloomy orange street lighting, was so memorable I put it into writing. The following year I rearranged the composition to include an alto saxophone as was played there that night.
