About

We are excited to share this waiata with you all whanau.

Ororuarangi is an extra special song to us, it is inspired by Reti Hedley's late mother, Rangiiria Hedley and her work in the revitalisation of taonga pūoro during her life.

We hope this tune gives you an intimate glimpse into the soundscape of taonga pūoro, most notably the putorino, a traditional flute, whose shape resembles the case moth, which embodies Hineraukatauri the atua (goddess) of music.

Dedication note

Big shout out to the tangata who were there to experience this live performance in the forest, it was special to have you all there!

Special thanks to Moehau Hodges-Tai & Tom West for capturing this live & to Jon Clarke for the beautiful album artwork you have created! We also wanted to send a shout out to the Waikato District Council for funding this live capture!
