About

Fekete Folyó ("Black River") refers to the Danube which flows from its source in the Black Forest, moving through Budapest, Hungary, to empty into the Black Sea. This piece looks to the traumatic history of the Jewish Hungarian people in Budapest and to that of the Romani of Budapest; also to the poignant and often joyous exuberant sounds of their folk bands which can seem an antidote to the hardships experienced by these people.

The piece moves between lament and dance with an underlying angst emerging strongly at times.
