This piece was written in stages for the Maryhill Trio of Dunedin, which was formed about five years ago when a stranger knocked on the composer's door, said she'd often heard him playing the piano when passing his house, and asked if he'd be interested in becoming part of a trio. She would play the violin, the composer the piano; a cellist was already lined up. After playing some other pieces together, the composer decided a trio for the group was in order, and this is the result.
