About

The piece is an exploration of the 1920's cabaret scene, which I've always been interested in, especially after working on the piece Cave Dances, commissioned for the Chamber Music NZ "Tales of the 20's" programme in 2020. The second movement of the Burlesque Suite contains a nod or two to this work. The final movement is a pastiche on the famous Concertpiece for two clarinets and piano by Felix Mendelssohn, with a quote from the Sonata for Two Clarinets by Francis Poulenc, a work that ushered in the 1920's.
