This piece was composed for Japanese flautist Yuki Ohashi as part of a "Music for Friends" concert in Christchurch, New Zealand, as part of a Japan-New Zealand partnership programme. Although Yuki was a very accomplished flautist, her stipulation was that the piece should be able to be played by secondary school students or semi-professional musicians.
