Written by Hone Hurihanganui in 1992 after the tragic multiple murders of Bevan Tepu aged 21, his partner Nicola Fergusson who was pregnant aged 20, their son Steven aged 2, Phillip Fergusson aged 14, the Ratima children Piripi 6, Barney 4, and 2 year old Stacey Ratima.
Hone relates” I’ll never forget it, I remember the evening like it was yesterday. We were having a noho marae at Whakaoriori (Marae at Ucol), some of us were outside when the sirens went speeding past up Chapel Street. Later we heard about the tragic incident in Judds Road when the seven were murdered. The children that were killed were sleeping at the time”
