About

Filigree is the ancient art of weaving gold into jewellery. Gold thread is spun from a limited amount of material, transformed into intricate lace-like patterns. Likewise this work is spun out of a single melody richly intertwining, forming echoes, patterns and solos as strands come loose and are woven back into the texture.

In 2014 as we were travelling, the roof rack came off our car roof and spilled all of its contents onto the highways of Eastern Australia. My mother's jewellery box was lost, with her wedding ring inside. This piece is dedicated to my mother, to make up for what was lost, and in honour of my parents' marriage of 35 years.

It is adapted from a rondo form, like a ring.

A cord of three strands is not easily broken.
— Ecclesiastes 4:12
