About

Prospering Fields “comprises fragments of John Ritchie's “commemorative mosaic”, ‘Ergo tua rura manebunt’, assembled and composed in 1973 for the 100th anniversary of the founding of the University of Canterbury.”

“Therefore may your fields prosper” is a translation of the University of Canterbury’s motto “Ergo tua rura manebunt”, with the second movement featuring quotations from the University of Canterbury song ‘Cantuariensium’, which was composed by the first professor of music at Canterbury University College, John Christopher Bradshaw.

Dedication note

Written in honour of John Ritchie for his memorial concert.
