About

'Never 'til the Sun Fails' is a quote from JRR Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings. It is chanted by the barrow-wights as Frodo lies trapped beneath the mound. I have used the rhythm of the words to inform the theme of the 'Prelude'. This builds to two climaxes. The 'Toccata' then develops the opening theme further and introduces an ostinato pattern. The work ends with a dramatic descending cascade of notes and a dissonant final interval.

Contents note

a stately Prelude followed by a capricious Toccata
