About

Trio for two oboes and cor anglais was written while I was house-sitting in Wellington over December 2016 and January 2017. This time included a wonderful week attending the Wellington International Oboe School. To me, listening to an oboe consort often conjures up images of the seaside, which may come from hearing Edwin Carr's well-known piece for oboe quartet, Waiheke Island. The three movements of this trio are likewise inspired by coastal scenes. Movement one was inspired by daily walks in Mirimar Peninsula, at the entrance of Wellington Harbour. On the drive down to Wellington I stayed at Ohope Beach in the Bay of Plenty, which provided the idea for movement two. The third movement represents Turakirae, a wild stretch of coastline at the very bottom of the North Island, with its beautiful shifting light and tides
