Ivan Clayden is a Composer and Performer based in Wellington. He graduated from New Zealand School of Music – Te Kōkī with a Bachelor of Music in Composition in 2018. His work currently focuses on ways of utilising technology with established uses and limitations, such as looping devices, in creative ways to add new layers of explorative possibility to his compositions. His works are predominantly for solo performers and chamber groups. Ivan also has a keen interest in environmental sound composition, regularly making journeys out into New Zealand landscapes to make field recordings. He has composed several environmental sound compositions for varying speaker arrangements.
Ivan studied Horn under Sam Jacobs and Heather Thompson whilst at NZSM. He actively performs in various chamber and larger ensembles, such as Orchestra Wellington and other Wellington based groups. In 2018 he was a finalist in the NZSM Brass competition and continues a regular performance schedule, particularly focused around performing new works for Horn.
