He was so impressed with the New Zealand music played there that he has instituted a new exchange. The winner of the 'Best Performance of a New Zealand Work' at the Gisborne Competition will be invited to perform at Monash.
The winner of this award in 2009 was cellist Tasmin Kreymborg playing Gillian Whitehead's the Journey of Matuku Moana. She will perform this work again here at Music in the Round along with Gareth Farr's Shadow of the Hawk, and Michael Williams' Vertigo . She will then be joined with other musicians from the Monash School of Music in a performance of Villa-Lobos Bachianas Brasilieris No. 1 for 8 cellos.
