CMNZ | KATHRYN STOTT & NZSQ

Tour

Renowned for her interpretations of French piano repertoire – full of ‘evanescent colours and shimmering, elusive light’ – British pianist Kathryn Stott will perform recitals in New Plymouth and Napier, before joining the New Zealand String Quartet for solo and chamber music.

In Kathryn’s partnership with the New Zealand String Quartet, the passion of Franck’s 1879 Quintet, and the Czech inspiration behind Dvořák’s Quintet contrast with Psathas’s Piano Quintet, premiered by the NZSQ in 2000.

“The NZSQ first played with Kathryn Stott at the Australian Festival of Chamber Music in Townsville in 2007. The wonderful Piers Lane is the director of the festival and it’s thanks to him that we were paired up with Kathryn to play the Brahms Piano Quintet. We absolutely loved her playing — she has an intensely singing tone, very beautiful voicing, and a virtuoso technique. We couldn't wait for the next chance to play with her, so we invited her to be a guest artist at the 2015 Adam Chamber Music Festival where she presented a solo recital, gave a masterclass, and performed with us in various combinations. Kathryn has a spirited personality and is great fun to be around so it will be such a treat to be on tour with her for Chamber Music New Zealand - we are SO looking forward to it.” Gillian Ansell, NZSQ.
