Atiru (Tone Poem for Orchestra)

Atiru (Tone Poem for Orchestra) was first conceived during the initial lockdowns in 2020 and deals with dark and brooding themes with both menacing and triumphant undertones. The form of the piece undulates through a three act structure. Stormy images of crashing waves are evoked and brief moments of calm shine through only to be swept up again by the power of natural forces. The second section evokes murky rainforests and grunting beasts which scurry away allowing for a moment of optimistic clarity. Out of the clear emerges a grand fanfare which propels the listener towards a triumphant climax.
